Nathan Hendrie is an independent
producer
and editor based in Boston. His
documentary
work includes editing programs
for NOVA, NOVA
scienceNow, National
Geographic Channel, ABC News Productions,
and A&E. He has co-produced two films for
NOVA, and associate produced programs for
NOVA, The American Experience and The
People’s Century.
After graduating from Tufts University in 1991 with a BA in English & Spanish, Nathan worked
for several years as a camera assistant on
documentary shoots, then joined MDTV
Productions in Newburyport, MA in 1993.
There, he worked as an associate producer for
programs such as NOVA, The People’s
Century, and The American Experience. In
1999 he co-produced and edited “Mystery of
the First Americans,” followed by
“Neanderthals on Trial” in 2001, both for NOVA.
In 2002 he shot, edited, and co-produced
“Cruel Courage,” a documentary about citizens’
response to violence in Colombia, and in
2003-4 edited two NOVA programs about the
Mars Exploration Rover mission, “Mars Dead
or Alive” and “Welcome to Mars.” Since 2005
Nathan has edited NOVA documentaries about
the Asian tsunami, Isaac Newton, stem cell
research, mass extinction, a MIT robot
designer, an elevator to space, killer ants,
Alzheimer’s research, Mayan hieroglyphics,
and concussion research. In 2007 Nathan
worked on the ABC News Productions series
“Nascar in Primetime,” editing a program about
the Talladega race. In 2008 Nathan edited the continuing adventures of the rovers Spirit and Opportunity, "Five Years on Mars" for the National Geographic Channel, which won the 2009 News & Documentary Emmy Award for Outstanding Science, Technology and Nature Programming. Recent projects include NOVA programs about California's energy policy and Oliver Sacks' work with music and the brain. He has just completed a program about terraforming Mars for the National Geographic Channel.
